Saying Goodbye to a Decent Roleplay

Hey all! So, this week has (big surprise) passed by really quickly, but I'll go over some of the highlights (if I remember them) Saturday I got the other district to help out and we got endowments for 21 temple names done! Too bad a temple worker got a bit confused and stole one of them, but I'll get it back today... hopefully. Sunday we watched "Missions are Forever" by Elder Holland, which was very specific to missionaries in the MTC but also a really powerful talk, so I tentatively recommend it? Monday we had TRC with Andrea, and our lesson was derailed when I cut off my poor companion and talked to her about prayer and the importance of following Christ for twenty five minutes instead. I talked to her about how prayer isn't just a rehearsed thank you, please, amen, but a conversation about the good, the bad, and everything you want along with need, because God is a loving heavenly Father and He does want to talk with you. it obviously caught he...

Fasting is harder when it's not from food (also a possible bomb in the mail)

Hey everyone! The MTC is getting into a pretty normal schedule, so I can't really tell you about anything new, but that doesn't mean there's nothing to talk about! I'll be sure to keep it a tad shorter this time, I want y'all to actually read these after all. TRC has been pretty chill recently, Andrea has warmed up to us a bit and has been reading and loving the Book of Mormon! Even though it's just a role play, it's hard to think that when you're in there with her. We've got her next week and we're really excited! Wednesday was our Ayuno de Ingles, or Fast from English. Going a whole day was really hard, especially when someone I knew wanted to talk to me like Hermana Watts (from EFY) or the Mensels, but we made it through without a word of English! Well, except for once or twice when we forgot, but those were only for a few seconds. Speaking of, the Mensels have been here with me all week! It's super fun to see Fred and Jane almost ...

Learning to Not Love Someone (In the Best Way Possible)

Hey everyone! It's been another great week over here in the MTC, and I only have about fifteen minutes to write everything down because my dryer was broken and screwed up my whole schedule while it went through a second run, then I came back from exercise period and we're off to the temple in just a bit, so I'll get around to all of the good stuff and send you off with the pictures I can finally send you! Even if I can't say a ton, know that I'm still loving it here and I can't wait to talk to you all again next week. So, biggest thing this week was (dun dun dun) TRC. TRC is a role play-ish thing where you have one person (Our is Andrea Perez) who 50/50 may or may not be a member, and you meet with them/teach them three times a week. First time we met her was... terrible. Seriously the worst. We breezed over everything, didn't even finish our lesson, she was confused about pretty much every point, and I left annoyed at my companion, angry at life, an...

Real moments with fake investigators (also, lots and lots of voluntary BoM study)

Hello everyone! I'm hoping I got around to all of your personal emails, I wouldn't want any questions unanswered, but I'm pretty confident we're good. As some of you already know, my camera is amazing, but the port to plug it into the computer is real weird and rare I guess, so instead I'll be coming next week with a new SD card reader to show you all tons and tons of life at the MTC moments. I had an amazing experience all the way back to last Saturday though, so we have to start there. Out lesson was by my favorite sub thusfar, Hermano Omdahl. After the main lesson, he said we'd have to talk to him about and say a prayer with him as an investigator all in Spanish! Elder Christiansen took four years of Spanish though, so he and I were both feeling pretty okay about it. We went in had an amazing lesson, then left. When he called us in to talk about it, he led us to our one problem--we had a script. We were so by the books we didn't use anything we learne...

Four days in!

Buenas Dias! I'm finally here at the MTC, and it's great! I was told a lot of people didn't like it, the food, etc., but it's going really well. Instead of getting bogged down by all the classes, not being home, everything, I've just kind of been going with it, and it's turned out well for me! I don't actually have time for picture or anything, but I''ll send more next week--it's only a partial P-day today. When I first got here, my companion was sick and needed 24 hours of clearance first, so I joined in with Elders Barnum and Rydalch! They were both great companions, and we had a ton of fun before Elder Christiansen came and I joined him. He's tons of fun and super motivated, which keeps me up and going too, plus he's the same as me--riding the wave and not getting bogged down at all. The classes are really challenging, but I already feel like I know 10X more Spanish! Now we're at the point where we're supposed to start by sp...
